Recommended and minimum 4k speed for an USB Windows to Go

Hi! This is my first post and I made my due diligence searching the forums but I couldn't find anything related so I'd like to ask for your wisdom.

There's a post made as a resource posted from roughly a year ago ( https://www.easyuefi.com/wintousb/resource/windows-to-go-on-usb-stick-performance-might-be-impacted.html ) talking about how 4k sector read/write speeds are quite important when choosing a USB memory stick to be used as a Windows to Go installation. But there's no mention as to what would be considered a good speed (going outside the certified devices route here...).

For example, I found one that had a decent sequential performance (in the 200 MB/s range) but its 4k speeds were barely 0.1-0.2 MB/s.

So my question is what would be good enough and what would be preferable or desirable?

I could always go the SSD way, but if possible and with a constraint budget I'd rather have a small footprint device I could carry with me all day.

I'm attempting to use WinToUsb Free to install a Windows 10 Insider Preview Build to a USB drive. I heard about WinToUsb and it sounded like a great tool, and I understand that it's free for non-commercial use.

When I select the .iso file, it asks me to choose what version of the OS I'd like to install. Regardless of what I select, it tells me that free/trail version doesn't support Windows Enterprise/Server operating systems....which is fine. I just want to check out the insider build without messing around on my home PC.

Am I misunderstanding the licensing, and can someone tell me how much I would have to pay to get this to work?

Works fine.. once.. on reboot get stuck

Trying to boot win2usb on surface book 2 using 256gb externall ssd drive over usb.. adata one. Boots fine first time but on installing updates the machine won't boot again gets stuck with the spinning dots and no further or gets stuck in automatic repair but doesnt do anything. Wipe drive start again and same thing happens.

Also couldn't do fat32 from cmd in windows so had to use a 3rd party tool could that be it? Almost there but not quite.

I've just downloaded a Windows Insider build that I would like to experiment with. I used WinToUSB to select the ISO and the USB drive and that all seemed to work as expected. When restarting my laptop attempts to boot from the USB drive but displays an error saying that the software or hardware has changed. I'm using the same laptop and haven't changed any hardware or software.

Can anyone tell me what might be going wrong here?

Dual booting VHD with Win7 - winload.exe error

Hello,

I created a Windows 10(x64) To Go VHD and it boots fine on my USB and HDD but won't boot on my SSD that has Win7x64 installed. I get the error about winload.exe not passing integrity check, or a disk read error. The strange thing is that it will boot from the boot entry on my other HDD. I just can't get it to boot from bootmgr on the drive it's actually on. (So the VHD file runs fine.)

When I boot from the Windows 7 partition, and choose Win10-to-go, I get the winload.exe error. When I mark the partition with the VHD as active and boot to it I get a disk read error. When I boot from a bootmgr partition on another HDD with WinToGo.vhd in the BCD it boots fine.

All my disks are MBR NT 6.x. All partitions boot with bootmgr. I have no GPT disks and my ASUS UEFI Bios boots in legacy mode. I have no separate boot partitions. Each partition has it's own bootmgr and BCD. Win7x64 is on first SSD partition, Win10 to go VHD is on second partition.

What am I doing wrong on the SSD?

Hi, I've been using a 128gb USB stick as my main HD for about a year as my eMMC32gb sucks.

but now I cant boot getting the following error
is there anything I can do without a Format and fresh install??

Well,
I have a samsung ssd and i used a usb3.0 to sata cable to create a WinToGo USB Windows installation.

And I am very satisfied with the results. But I wonder:

Is it possible to remove ssd from usb cable and put it inside the pc chasis -with a sata and a power cable off course

will it boot????

I've been using many different ISO's and different versions of WinToUSB but I can't seem to get it to work, either I cant boot into it or when I do boot into it I just get an error. I'm trying to get Windows 8.1 on my 32GB USB. I'm not sure if its because of the ISO or if its because the USB. I bough a Sandisk Extreme Pro USB Stick which I use with WinToGo and Bitlocker Encryption. Worked very fast for one month, until the whole system slowed down. It seems that the Stick does not support TRIM. Is there any software alternative that I can use?
