Corsair GTX Voyager (SSD USB Stick) Installation hangs at 95%

Hi,

As my old USB stick was very slow I bought one of the fast GTX Voager USB stick without knowing that this stick is more like a mini external SSD as a normal USB Stick. It reports itself as disk so I read the guide on how to prepare the disk in order to use WinToUSB.

I first tried MBR mode with a small fat32 partition 100MB and a big ntfs partition but the stick always hangs at 95% of the install process (after copying the vhd file I use as starting point). It seems that it cannot create normal files to boot from. I then fiddled around and in the end (as my system runs from UEFI disks anyway) I used diskpart to wipe the disk, convert it to gep and create ESP/EFI partition and windows partition (interestingly a 128MB msr partition also got created although I did not opt for that). But here I have exactly the same problem installation stops at 95%.

Interesting thing I found out is, that once the installation reaches 95% you can not open any partitioning tool cause it hangs when trying to read the USB SSD Partitions. It's like WinToUSB somehow crashes access to the stick completely.

Best regards,

Marc

WinPE & USB Driver Injection

I have a new Lenovo AIO and I was able to finally get Windows 7 on the hard drive after many hours of trying to inject the usb drivers.. I'm now trying to make it portable but when it boots to WinPE to clone the drive its not loading the USB drivers (as expected). I've tried a few of the following links (https://goo.gl/yOSfgg) but I cannot locate the "Boot.sdi" or "boot.wim" in the install directory. Ive tried putting the Win10PE sdi and wim's into the path's below but it still is not recognizing the USB devices so I dont think its actually using the Win10PE files...

C:\Program Files\Hasleo\WinToUSB\bin
C:\Program Files\Hasleo\WinToUSB\x64\WinToUSB\bin
C:\Program Files\Hasleo\WinToUSB\x86\WinToUSB\bin

I was also going to try injecting the drivers myself (i have the working drivers that worked for my initial install) following this article https://goo.gl/DrcJzV but again, i cannot locate boot.wim. I've even tried installing older versions hoping it would have the file but no luck...

Where can I locate this WIM file? I'd like to either A. Inject the files myself or B. Use the Windows10 PE Files.... TIA.

I am trying to convert an existing Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard to boot via USB.  When I try to boot it after running your tool, I get a blue screen.  I am assuming this has to do with the USB 3.0 drivers, but I am not sure.  Any fixes or thoughts?

Is there a way to migrate a WinToUSB install to bootcamp somehow?

Windows 10 activation is annoying now as well. I have a dead Windows laptop that I backed up with WinToUSB, but I have to boot externally now, which is slower than I want.

About disk optimized tool on WTG...

Hello, Guys,

I built the Windows 10 WTG (Professional Edition) on external SSD (USB3.0 to SATA3) and run it for 2 months, looks everything is good.
But I confused about disk optimized tool recently, because it shows my disk is "hard disk drive" in media type, not the "solid state drive". And looks the OS treats the SSD like a traditional hard disk to do defragmentation.

So I post a thread on other forum and try to know what happened. According the replies, I guess the rough conclusion is: if you build a WTG by the built-in tools of Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, you'll see the correct media type "Solid State Drive"; if you built by WinToUSB, you'll see the "Hard Disk Drive" like me. The point is the OS may not do the right things to the SSD drive.

I don't know wether it is a correct thought, so I post here and hope to have some help.

Anyone has any idea?

Thanks a lot for any help!

Multiple VHD on a single USB

$

When I use WinToUSB and create a WinToGo USB drive from a Windows 10 ISO for example, I see that a VHD file is created on the USB drive from which the OS boots. Now my question is, whether we can add a few more VHDs to that same USB drive, so that we can choose which of the VHDs I can boot up from, at startup ?

For example, I want to create a bootable WinToGo USB of Windows 10 using WinToUSB. SO I get an USB containing a VHD file.

Now I can create another such similar WinToGo on a different USB drive, That drive will also contain another VHD file.

Now, I want to add that second VHD also to the SAME [first] USB that WinToGo that I made, and I want the bootloader to ask me at startup as to what VHD I want to boot from...

Can you please tell me how I can do this ?

EDIT:

I have already seen this thread... Hoping to see more clearer steps on how exactly it can be done .. Thank you

Hi,

I have been using WinTo USB without any issues, then suddenly I get the error:
Failed to run system API. (0x00000015003100000)

I start the application with "run as administrator", my user is local administrator, I have stopped the virus software and added and exception to the virus scanner (alvira) for the application and I still get this error? What can I do next?

My log file is attached.

Please help - I am going bonkers!

Thanks,

Flash Drive Back to Normal

Hello guys,

I have a problem and i would like to solve it. I bought today a new usb flash drive (Lexar s75 JumpDrive USB 3.0 64 gb) and i used wintousb program.
I just wanted to install windows 8.1 to my usb flash drive. I followed the instructions. I chose .iso file then i click next. After that i chose my usb flash drive and a prompt message appeared and i click to GPT option with VHD option enabled. After that i click next and the process began.
I tested Windows 8.1 and was really really slow... so i decided to format the usb flash drive. I switched back to my main windows and i formated it.
The problem that i have now is.. my usb flash drive is very slow.
1. I use my flash drive in 3.0 usb port..
2. I have enabled in device manager > disk drives > Lexar usb > Properties Tab > Better Performance .
3. The format that i did was exFAT with 128 kilobytes allocation unit size. (I have perform the format procedure with Windows / Rufus / hp flash drive format tool)
4. In Disk Management when i choose the Lexar Usb drive, it says that it is a healthy (Primary Partition).
5. I check for bad sectors but everything is fine.

I attach an image with a test that i perform to check my usb flash drive write/read speeds. When i trying to transfer a file the speed starts with 20 Mb/s and then it drops to 200 kb/s and then back to 20 Mb/s or 30Mb/s and then again back to 500 kb/s. Please can you help me to bring back the speed of my flash drive?

What is your suggestion in this regard? I expect a constructive suggestion.

When I try and create a Windows To Go Drive, I cannot ever select the system and boot partitions. It selects them for me and it's locked so that I cannot change it. I have tried MBR for BIOS, GPT for UEFI, and MBR for BIOS and UEFI. Nothing works. And the resulting drive is never bootable. What the heck?

Creating a normal Win10 system that runs from a USB(?)

$

What I started off trying to do is to use a MacBook's Bootcamp to run Win10 on it.  There isn't room for Win10 on the MacBook's internal disk, so I've been trying to make a USB with a copy of Win10 on it.  I got nowhere with trying to use the BootCamp Assistant to do that, and a bit of googling got me to WinToUSB.  But I'm getting nowhere with that either, because:

I've created a Win10 ISO image and used the Windows Installation USB Creator to put the image onto a Lexar 128 Gb USB drive.

My normal Win10 PC will boot from the USB fine, and enters the Windows SetUp program.  Where I run into the sand is at the step where I'm supposed to choose a partition to install Win10 onto.  What I want to do, of course, is to install it to the USB itself, but that's the one disk that the drop-down list of available disks doesn't list.  I've no idea whether the USB would be listed if there was space for another partition on it, but the Win10 Disk Management utility says there's no free space on it.

So I'm beginning to wonder if it's even possible to install a runnable version of Win10 on a bootable USB drive.  So my first q is wherther that is possible or not and, if it is, my next question is how to do it, seeing as the Win10 SetUp program won't give the option of installing it on the USB?

I hope that's all clear,

Thanks Martyn

Can't install WTG on my external SSD

I have a Lenovo laptop that unfortunately only came with a 32GB onboard NAND flash drive which is HOPELESSLY too small for Windows 10 and MS Office. It also has no SATA port on the motherboard so I have resorted to getting a 120gb Western Digital SSD drive and putting it into a USB3 external drive enclosure and I want to install Windows to it.

I have created a a single NTFS partition on the drive, formatted it and assigned a drive letter. I then tried to run the WinToUSB using my Windows.iso file created yesterday using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool. However, when I click Proceed, it tell me to install a USB drive and hit Refresh.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I've successfully managed to do a WTG installation on my 32GB USB flash drive but this SSD won't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Windows to go from a virtual machine

Dear forum,
i read a lot here and on the hasleo page but did not get the info i searched for.

I have in Virtualbox from Oracle a Win 10 running. From this virtual machine i would like to make a Windows to go USB stick.

From the process to do i understood that i would have to install Hasleo WinToUSB in the running machine.
Then the script would create a winpe image to capture the enviroment info of my laptop.

And here i have my question. Or chain of question.

I need to pas local USB into running virtual machine to see them -> is this recognized after shutdown from the winpe image

How does the winpe know how to convert the right vdi disk and that the USB is back on the laptop port connected and not anymore in Virtualbox

thanks in advance for an answer
